At Thriving Through Recreation, we're waving goodbye to the idea that hobbies, sports, and the arts are "extras." We truly believe equitable access to recreation is a fundamental part of growing up.

We support children and young people navigating social, emotional, or educational hurdles.

We don't just find them a club; we help them find their passion, fund their participation, and build their confidence within their own communities. We're not just about filling time—we're about giving children and young people the space to be free from their difficulties and have the freedom to learn what they love.

The Role

Working closely with our CEO, you’ll be the engine room of our Activities Support Programme. Our heart is in the community, so while you’ll work from home, you’ll be our local hero on the ground in Cambridgeshire, facilitating connections and making things happen.

You’ll be the "matchmaker" who connects a child or young person’s unique spark with the perfect local activity and supports their 12-month learning journey.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Connecting: Triage and assess applications, build authentic relationships with families and professionals to understand what makes a child or young person tick.

  • Vetting: Playing it safe. You’ll conduct risk assessments and due diligence to ensure every activity provider is top-tier in safeguarding and expertise.

  • Facilitating: Managing the logistics—finding the right club, negotiating payments, supporting families, and keeping our budget on track.

  • Evidencing: Collecting the stories that prove our impact, helping us grow so we can reach even more children and young people.

Who You Are

  • You’re experienced: You have a background in social work, youth work, teaching or a related field and have supported families navigating disadvantage.

  • You’re qualified: You hold a degree or certification in Social Work, Youth Work, Education, or a related field.

  • You’re Safeguarding Savvy: You have a deep understanding of child protection and know how to keep things "by the book."

  • Independent: You're comfortable leading frontline operations autonomously and can help shape our charity as it grows.

  • You’re a Multitasker: You can manage a family caseload, a budget, and a calendar without breaking a sweat.

  • You’re a Great Communicator: You can chat about finger painting with a 6-year-old one minute and liaise with a local sports club manager the next.

  • You’re Local: You live in Cambridgeshire and want to use your knowledge of the county to expand our reach.

How We Work

We’re a remote-first team that values flexibility, connection, and wellbeing. You’ll have the freedom to work in a way that fits your life—whether that’s the school run, walking the dog, or simply working from your favourite corner of the house.

Because we support the Cambridgeshire community, you’ll need to be based in the county for occasional local travel and to tap into your local insight. Work the way that works for you!

Why Join Us?

  • £32,000 pro rata (28 hours per week).

  • Term Time Only: Enjoy the school holidays off!

  • Be a Pioneer: Help shape the future of a rapidly growing charity.

  • Inclusive Culture: We value your unique journey. Whether your experience is paid, unpaid, personal, or professional, we want to hear from you.

Interview Process

  • One remote interview.

  • One in-person interview in Cambridgeshire.

  • Interviews June 5 and/or June 12
